The color of wheat, with deep brown eyes and a tiny black nose, a tough little street puppy found us one late night in Carthage, Missouri. She had worms and fleas and no home. That was thirteen years ago. She made us whole ever since.

Back when I was studying literature and drama, I stumbled on this line from Tennessee Williams: “Snatching the eternal out of the desperately fleeting is the great magic trick of human existence.” I wrote it down and haven’t really thought about it in years. Thinking about it now, I guess it reflects how I feel about taking pictures.
